About Privat Collies

"Having the breed in heart.
With health, temperament and the standard in mind."

The breeding of dogs started in 1977 as a hobby. And it still is.

The prefix "Privat" was recorded with the NKK/FCI in 1984.  The name was chosen because this will always be a small "private" kennel where all dogs live in the house as family members.

 My life with dogs.
Being raised with a four legged family member, it just came natural to me to get my own dog as an adult. In my childhood we had different mix-breeds, but in 1964 my older brother came home with a beautiful Collie puppy. He named her Lady and the stories about all the things she could do are still being told.... Anyhow, l believe that Lady is the reason that l got the "Collie-virus".

My x-husband's family had puddles. So in 1974 when l got my first dog, it was a black miniature puddle. Dog no 2 was also a puddle. My first litter in 1977 was puddles after my two little friends, Pia and Fido. Pia and Fido had two litters all together.  l remember well how Pia reacted when Fido died. She missed him so much that every time we meet a black puddle she would try to get to him. if going by car she scratch the car window  and scream. As time went by she wasn't picky about the breed or size, as long as the dog she saw was black she would think it was her Fido.. Very very sad for a little heart. Lovely dogs puddles. l still love the breed a lot and try to sit by their ring when l go to a dog show.
Then, in 1978,  l got my first Collie. l called her Abbey because she was bought near Newton Abbot in England.

Pedigree of Abbey, my first Collie :

Nutslade Hello Dolly

Born the 22. of May 1978

Clanayre Caraban GB CH Royal Ace of Rokeby
Clanayre Caress
Nutslade Rag Doll Nutslade Mighty Thunder
Trelew Black Opal

Abbey was a sound bitch, and she had a lovely temperament, and l was very happy to get her. She and l did everything together, she came with me everywhere. Even when l went to university she lived with me in my little room.  My landlord loved her and took her for walks... Abbey did well in obedience and her best result in class 1 was 160 points out of 180. She had both bronze- and silver medals in obedience. She also competed in the show ring, and Abbey got 1 CC and several reserve CC's. She was indeed a Collie with lots of qualities, no wonder my house is "filled up" with Collies today. l loved Abbey a lot.

Collies - the best dog ever!

In 1981 Abbey gave me my first litter of collies, a litter of 12 where 5 girls and 5 boys lived up!! It was an all over beautiful litter sired by Champion Dragonen's Smashing Skipper. l got my first champion: Champion Johnny Walker Special Blend in this litter. Two of the girls also did well in the show ring, "For Your Eyes Only" got 4 CC's  and "Love And Emotions" got 2. It's a pity we didn't show the dogs more than we did.
I will always be thankful to Birgitta Holm, Dragonen Kennel, Sweden for letting me use her beautiful champion Skipper and for all the help and good advice she gave me in the beginning.

My life with dogs also have included bearded collies. l have had 3 girls.  I found one of them good enough for breeding; Champion Fable Fendi Edt.  Champion Privat's Kevin Costner is from my last beardie-litter born in 1996.
The reasons l don't  own and breed beardies anymore is because of their demanding coat. l think many beardies suffer because their owner don't cope. When l get old and l want to have only one dog, a beardie is high up on my list. It is important l must have the time to let my beardie have a full coat. l adore beardies in a full coat.

My collie breeding started with 2 successful litters from Abbey. After that a new litter has been born now and then. And l have no plans to stop yet.
l have been quite lucky with my pups: So fare l believe l have had CC-winners in all my litters!
All over I have breed many good looking dogs, and it's a pity indeed that so few of them has been taken to dog shows.   But I will not sell a dog as a show-dog. My breeding are family dogs that might be good enough to compete in the show ring. The main thing for me is that the dogs l sell will have a good life, are being loved by their owners, and that the dogs are well taken care off in their day to day life. It must not be the colour of the ribbons from a show that decide if the new owner love the dog or not.

Being a breeder for so many years has given me a lot. It has learned me a lot about the hole dog and it has also given me many very good friends all over the world.

Having and breeding dogs is a way of living
